The Folly Cottage

Utter Clutter

What a great find I had today.

The shop is called Utter Clutter and is situated in Leominster.

I had been there last week andsaw a green painted chair and a pair of rose bud pllow slips but didn't buy them, so, this week I decided to go back to the shop. Yes, you guessed it, they had been sold but I then spotted a 50's black jumper with short sleeves and lots of beads,sequins and felt flowers embroidered on it - it really is so pretty.

Time Does Fly

I was searching through some of my favourite blogs and remembered that I had actually started one myself - doooh.

So, almost a year later and what's happened at Rose Villa?

Well, my very large Victorian terrace bathroom is now transformed back into a smaller third bedroom and even smaller bathroom - and I really do mean small.

For the bathroom suite I choses a plain white enamelled steel bath with funky stainless taps. A compact size loo - a bit like a school loo I think, for children LOL - and a slimmer profile sink -same width as a normal sink but it jutts out less - funky taps again. I also had a lovely towel rail style radiator installed. There is a new small sash style window in the newly created bathroom space. It's all rather dinky and you can sit on the loo, brush your teeth in the hand basin and wash your feet in the bath at the same time.(although why you would want to!!)

Now for the kitchen revamp.

I was so fed up with the kitchen so I knocked down the wall which seperated the utility area from the actual kitchen. The floor had to be raised in the kitchen to match that of the utility area.
I had a new window opening so that I now have a view of my garden as well as a side window - typical Victorian terrace layout.

Today, I am attempting to actually finish off the kitchen decoration.

Hopeless eh - only taken me twleve months nearly.

Dust, dust and more dust....

So we didn't move house but have had a look at revamping Rose Villa so find the third bedroom much need by my youngest son.

I just took a hammer and knocked down the wall between my kitchen and utility area - oh my lord what a mess, what dust, crikey how many bricks, will it ever end.

Now I had to find a man who could put it all back together for me.

Basically, I have split the large third bedroom into a smaller bedroom and 'compact but bijou' bathroom.

Received the compliment off a dear friend who said'it looks as though it's always been this way'. So that's good.

The kitchen mess is still going on. I'll keep you posted.

Moving House - not!

I put Rose Villa on the market for sale as I had found a converted coach house in a former stableyard which I fell in love with ! HA - talk about problems with the neighbours, so after some thought we are now going to stay at Rose Villa and do more work to it.. Aaaagh!

So, last Tuesday the wall was knocked out between the kitchen and a small utility area, so now I have a big kitchen and lots of dust and mess.
The plan is to instal a new kitchen complete with white enamel rustic style sink - not Belfast though - and to also do some work on the over large bathroom upstairs so that we have a smaller bathroom and another bedroom. Tadaaa - no need to move house now...........

First Pinny

When I think of wearing a pinny, I think of my great grandmother,Evie. She always wore a pinny - the type which covered your top as well as from the waist down - and I remember she always had home baked cakes to serve with tea.

So, image how chuffed I was to find a real vintage pinny from the 1950's, complete with a little patch to 'make do and mend' a little hole by the hankie pocket. And it only cost 75p from a charity shop in Upton-upon-Severn.

Oh, my pinny is so cute. It has rows of little flower pots with pink and blue flowers popping up. It's waist tied pinny not a cover all jobbie!

Now, I need to bake the cakes I suppose.

New Junk Shop

What great timing! I have a new source of Fluffy Finds in the shape of a junk shop within walking distance of Rose Villa - hurrah!

Today's loot is a pair of lilac barley twist glass candle sticks and a set of four sweet hand painted egg cups with delicate pink and powder blue Forget-Me-Not flowers. No stopping me now, I'm on a run of good luck!

One problem here though, I am not good at understanding how to add my pics to this blog so I can share these lovely vintage booty with you - any ideas please?

Why the Folly Cottage?

The Folly Cottage is what it is - it's a folly - it's pretending to be a cottage but is actually a Victorian terraced house in Malvern, a two minute walk from the common.

I bought the house in 2002 and it was the cheapest and the ugliest house in the row of Victorian terraced cottages. It had aluminium windows and had been stripped internally of all the pretty, charming details - a legacy of the era of 'modernisation' during the 50's but lacking the lovely Retro feel! Basically, it was grotty but affordable.

My first posting on this new blog.

Today, I found a luvly 1950's canteen of cutlery with coloured handles on the knives - yep, a la Cath Kidston. And, a sweet little glass decanter with six shot glasses, all decorated with little roses. Makes me feel happy! Pics to follow when I've worked out what to do!
